7th Birthday for Wizard101 - and KI have officially gone nuts!

Happy 7th birthday Wizard101!  The birthday where Wizard101 gets older, and we all get the gifts :)

Wow.  This is quite a birthday surprise!

Blaze was very excited and told me I needed to get a post out because what KI have lined up is truly remarkable.

Let's see how/where to start...

Well, first there are the 7, (yes 7!) free gifts you get just by logging into the website and using the code:  happy7thbday

  • Origami Party Crane Pet
  • Birthday Hat
  • Confetti Canon
  • Major Fishing Elixir
  • Ultra Dandelion Seed
  • Birthday Cake Snack
  • Huge Ice Cream Snack

OK, so some of these are definitely better than others - but seriously - a free Pet?! And it really is a great looking pet too :)

Then of course there are the new Crown shop items:

  • Party Corgi Pet
  • Reg. Keeper Party Multi-Tank Aquarium
  • Birthday Party Cake Housing Item
  • Party Chair Housing Item
  • Party Buffet Table Housing Item

The 5 B.O.X.E.S. event and the Lost Pages events are BOTH back at the same time!

And then...if you are a member, well...

  • Double pet experience
  • Double gardening rewards
  • Free PVP tournaments
  • Free training point buy back
It is just MAD!  I was just thinking while planting out my EMPs the other day...I wonder when there'll be another double gardening reward?

...and that means those Mega-Snacks are worth 100 PET EXPERIENCE!!  Woohoo!!

And of course, (and Alia will be pleased to hear this!) there is the dun, dun , dahhh..."MYSTERY FISH"!

I wonder what he is...and I wonder where he'll be?

So, again, Happy Birthday Wizard101 and KI.  Congratulations and I might just go and collect my free stuff...

See you 'round the Spiral!

Tempest Pet 2.0

I have decided to come back to my side project of replicating my once perfect Penumbra Drake pet (perfect until KI released Ultra :P) except as a Tempest! (which I absolutely love the look of).

I began this little Tempest quest quite a while ago but stopped because (somehow) I ran out of Mega Snacks. It has been quite a while since then however, and thanks to my Couch Potatoes and EMPs I've built up quite a stockpile of Megas and this will hopefully give me some good talents fast!

The talents I believe I'm going to be aiming for are (no particular order):

1. Death Dealer
2. Pain Giver
3. Fairy
4. Spell Proof
5. Spell Defy
6. ?

I'm not yet sure what I want as my 6th talent for my Perfect Pet so any recommendations, I am happy to take into consideration. Anyway, I started training the newly hatched Tempest and these are the talents I've gotten so far...

Not too shabby! I'm definitely happy with these talents and will get back to training once I have the energy.

Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed!

Until next time!

Broccoli is Good for You!

Ok everyone.

I'm not sure if KI meant for anyone to find out about this, but I found the best snack in the game that will help you're pet by an INCREDIBLE amount when trying to get certain talents.

So, feed your pet whatever you like until it has a small amount of experience left to level up. Once you've done that, you'll want to select a Broccoli snack, (any type will do) then feed.

For this particular pet, I was aiming to get Spell Proof so I told the pet to get Spell Proof and as a reward, you will get a Cubby Broccoli.

There's only one answer to something like that...

And there you have it! A simple, maybe not true, not 100% working way to get the talents you want!

I am considerably stoked with this pet and wish you all good luck on your pet training.

Thanks!

I Love the Look of that Pet!

After achieving what was considered by me to be the perfect pet on most occasions, I hadn't done much pet training up until now.

I didn't think there was much reason to train and use energy when I have the pet I want but I soon came to realise.. I didn't! And this is even excluding the new talents that KI keep releasing!

What my pet lacked and could never achieve was...

The Look!

I never realised until I saw it, but my favourite looking pet is the Tempest!!

Now let's be serious. What Death Wizard would NOT want this pet? It's basically a death seraph and there is even a spell on this pet!

After a generous hatch from a friend, I had obtained my own and have been hatching vigorously with myself to get the same talents onto it. Wish me luck! :)

Thanks for Reading!

Blaze's Tips & Tricks No. 8 An efficient Guide to the Cannon Game!

After doing a lot of pet training lately, I've been trying all the games out again.

I have a tip that I believe will come in very handy to those wishing to do the cannon game well, and quickly.

What you need to do, is put the power meter up to full and aim really low. This means that you don't have to worry too much about how the wind is going to affect your shot.

Use the practise shot to your advantage to judge the height of the cannon and with a little bit of practise you'll get much better.

This is how a typical shot of mine would look, max power, low aim and then worrying about the wind with the direction of cannon.

And again...

Until you've finished the round. If you do well, then you should average 3 - 4 points a round.

Hopefully this tip has helped you and good luck on your future pet training endeavours.

Thanks for reading!

Pets that give Energy

You know I wasn't too excited when I saw new pets were available. I have enough trouble finding time and (I hate to admit it) inclination to train what I have so I didn't look at their stats. I just wasn't interested enough.

So tonight when I logged on and found Maintenance scheduled 10 mins later, I thought I would check out the Crown Shop and look at the couple of new offerings. Dapper Corgi was the first one I looked at, and I very nearly fell off my chair!

This was something new, I'm pretty sure I hadn't seen it before.... I did some reading on some forums and that seemed to confirm my suspicions.....

This is a pet that has 8 energy at baby.... yeah baby! 8 energy!

There are a large number of new pets in the Test Realm right now and many, many wizards are training to reveal the talents for us. I noticed there are some May Cast fishing talents being revealed as well, though I am pretty sure that this is the only Energy giving pet available right now.  With energy being the elixir of gold in the Spiral for gardeners and anglers alike, I guess we can look forward to a new era of pet talents.

Exciting times ahead, I just need to find some extra motivation to do the training - I have over 200 mega snacks just sitting in my back-pack waiting to be used.

So have you bought one? What talents have you revealed?

Have fun, until next time,
Tabitha

The Bone Dragon

You know it seems an absolute age ago when a fellow Wizard started asking if I had the Bone Dragon yet? What - the card? But now I know... it was the pet he was referring to. And the answer was No - I didn't. And what's more, I didn't care to look into it any further than that. After as while my Wiz friend stopped asking, so I assume another Death Wiz had come to the rescue.

On my journey, I was excited to be almost at level 78.... all the '8' levels produce a new spell, and I was eager to find out what mine would be. So I quested until Dworgyn popped up on the right side and asked if I could go see him.... (like the answer would be no!)

Off I go, so excited - that is until Dworgyn speaks. Sigh - no spell, just a pet. I was not excited, I knew it would be the Bone Dragon coz Dworgyn had already mentioned it... no spell.

But it's not like it's something you want to turn down either...... so I had to go back to DragonSpyre and Marleybone.

Now it is fun to go back an revisit some of the battles.  Especially when you realise how easy they are - against how hard they were!! Dragonspyre was done in a flash, but you had to work a little harder in Marleybone. One thing I did notice in MB was that I didn't suffer the issue of 'getting caught'. I remember it being a great frustration when I was first over there!
Getting to the Warehouse meant you had to re-visit the dungeon and do enough to reach it. A few puzzles and a couple of small battles is enough, you don't have to finish the dungeon. And then there is an additional surprise waiting for you when you get to where you need for the pet quest.....

As you can see they have thrown a Life Boss in the mix - this was definitely not the case first time I did this dungeon!! Being Life it was an easy battle for my Death pack, so before I knew it I was back off to the death School and the man himself - Dworgyn!

Time to pick up my new pet and see what the fuss is all about! The stats themselves aren't bad and will be useful for hatching if any of the revealed talents are worth having. That card, however, is very good. It is a fair bit higher than the card I get in my pack and it occurs at baby. Will be interesting to see how training goes.... watch this space!

Have fun, until next time,
Tabitha

Pack Analysis: The "Wyvern's Hoard" Pack

Pack Name:                      Wyvern's Hoard
Pack Type:                       Gear
Number of Cards:            7
Total Number of Items:   143
Cost:                                   399 Crowns, on special from time to time and up to 50% off
Availability:                       Currently in Crowns Shop

Description

Now this one, for me, is pretty special.  While I got my robe from the Raven's Hoard pack, I got my mount from this one.  I love my big, beautiful Cloud Wyvern.  He was brutish to ride at first, and got me into no end of trouble in Dragonspyre, but once you master the sway of the beast, it really is a great mount.

Then, of course, is the Energy.  I consider this pack the "Energy Pack" as it has the best drops to send your Energy into overdrive - but more about that later - or just read my eBooks, click on the links on the side of this blog if you haven't read them,

This is predominantly a Life focused pack, but it really does have something for everyone.

OK - Let's check this pack out and see what wonders it contains...

Pets - 6
Given the age of this pack, there are a couple of good pets in here.  Out of the six pets, two of them, the Earth Walker and the Pixie Queen are both high stat, high pedigree 1st Generation pets.

The Pixie Queen that comes with this pack is an incredibly rare drop.  You can tell the difference between this pet and the normal Fairy Queen, as it is a pedigree 57 pet with a Fairy card.

!!Update!! Thanks to our good friend Scarlet Frogslinger, I have been informed that the Pixie Queen can now be purchased from the pet vendor, Kellen ForestTail, in Khrysalis for 10,000 Gold.  It seems that she just won't be that rare anymore!!!

Mounts - 11
Ahhh, the mounts.  There are five wyvern mounts in this pack, and I have four of them  The Night Wyvern still escapes me.  My favourite two are the Cloud Wyvern and the Night Wyvern, so I can see that I'll be buying a few more of these packs as time goes on!

Other than that, there are some pretty Fairy Wings...not really my thing, but a lot of people do like them.  There are 3 different types of these wings, and they in both Permanent and 1-Day options.

The mounts are a big part of this lucky dip, and you never know what you are going to come up with...

Snacks - 0
OK, probably best to know that if you are after Snacks, don't buy this pack!!

Treasure Cards - 18
The Treasure Cards that come with this pack are top notch.  From Baby Sunbirds to Rebirth, from the Massive Pest Zapper to Satyr, the only poor card is Leprechaun.  Not bad when there are 18 cards to potentially drop!

Seeds - 21
Now for the seeds.  When you take out the ones that you can buy from the various gardeners, there are 9 seeds left, slightly less than half.  It is when you see what seeds they are that it is pretty impressive.

My favourite seed, the Couch Potato, is in there, as is the Evil Magma Pea - considered by some as
the best seed in the game.  There is the King Parsley - useful in large numbers for Amber, and Key Limes, the best seed to level up quickly in Gardening (just ask Tabitha!).  I often call these two "the gifts that keep on giving" as they multiply rapidly, but can be used to level up your pet if you feed your surplus to it.

There is even the DHE or Deadly Helephant Ears, and the (potentially buggy) Silver Trumpet Vine.

An amazing array of high quality seeds in a single pack.

Reagents - 7
Every pack has its weakness.  For the Wyvern's Hoard pack, that weakness is the Reagents.  You really don't want to get these after spending your hard earned Crowns.  Probably the less said about these the better!

Clothing - 9
This pack was one of the 'transitional' packs where the different items started to be grouped together. In this case, it is the "Brilliant", "Energetic" and "Peaceful" sets of Greenwarden's clothing.

There are some upsides and some downsides with this clothing as there often is with any item.  The main downside is that it looks terrible unless you are a tree!  Also, given it is an older pack, some of the critical / block combinations are a little different.

Greenwarden's Brilliant Gear - This gear is pretty balanced.  It is a good generic set of gear.

Greenwarden's Peaceful Gear - This gear is not bad, a little bit of Energy, and some attack, some defense, some accuracy.

Greenwarden's Energetic Gear -  Now this is the good stuff.  The real gold. I don't know how many packs I purchased for this.  It is *easily* the best Energy gear in the game.  At level 100, this gear adds a mighty 69 points of Energy to your total.  Amazing stuff.  With the extra emphasis on Energy for Fishing, this is even more valuable now!

Wands - 11
The wands continue the naming trend and are all pretty similar.  The Brilliant Wand ends up with a nice big Block, while both the Energetic and Peaceful have both Critical and Block, with the Energetic with a bit more Critical and the Peaceful with a bit more Block...as you would expect.

Housing Items - 60
The housing items are largely focused on trees.  There are lots of them!  Most of these you can get from the Bazaar, along with many of these housing items.  That said, there are even great housing items in this pack! The Porters drop pretty regularly and it certainly saves crafting or buying them in the Porter Pack.  Great when you start to have a few houses!

Morgrim's Verdict

Low Level Wizards
Buy this pack! The pets can give useful cards for low level Wizards, the mounts are impressive and the gear is excellent.  The treasure cards are powerful, and even the potential seed drops are first class.

As an all-rounders pack, this is arguably the best.  A low level life Wiz casting a Rebirth is always great fun - especially if it is their first time!

High Level Wizard
If you need Energy, buy this pack!  It is just amazing the difference it can make to your overall energy.  Mega-snacks, this pack can ensure you have a never-ending supply! Graceful mounts? Yep. Even looking for a rare pet? ...got that too.

You may have guessed by now, I am really impressed with this pack, but that is because it drops the things that I value.  What do you think?  Are these things useful to you too?

Let me know if you agree with my Verdict!

See you 'round the Spiral.

Grub Guardian: The Helephant Tower

Here we are with another Grub Guardian post...

The Helephant Tower is a Wysteria map (costs crowns to buy, I HIGHLY suggest spending crowns on Wysteria maps). Wysteria maps are definitely worth the couple hundred crowns needed as you will win so many crowns items as rewards that easily make up what you spent.

Anyway, I completed this map using star towers. Yes yes, I know, more crowns items... But seriously. This level is so insanely hard to get a gold medal on that I couldn't get it after going at it for around an hour. I can finish it, just not perfectly.

Here is the video.

Ok, basic strategy is just centralising the Epic fire pet and letting the star towers do the work. They are seriously overpowered. Anyway, you need to put down the Ice towers for those Helephants near the start as they are pretty quick but move ridiculously slowly with ice slow.

Hope you enjoyed and I will have more Grub Guardian posts out soon.

See you next time!

Random Hatching

Hey everyone,

As you know I have been over at (and enjoying) Celestia recently - specifically The Floating Land.

As usual I was solo questing and had only seen one other Wizard in the immediate area. I checked to see if this Wizard was going OK and then carried on with my quests - clearing some of the bosses in this region. The other Wizard was obviously just behind me in his quests, and he soon came over and asked for help in the boss fights. He was a Storm wizard, David, and wanted help with a Storm boss. I had recently completed this fight and knew it was no drama, so agreed to help him.

Patch, my Ianthine Hound was in good form during the battle. I was constantly ablaze with the yellow dome of Vengeance, coupled with a helping of Balance Blades and some largely un-needed Fairies. The Storm Wizard was impressed and asked if I would hatch.

To be honest I really wasn't bothered either way. I was happy with Patch, although I knew it was time to start thinking a new pet talents, I wasn't in any real hurry. I had lots of Gold, so I said 'Sure'. As soon as the battle was done we headed over to the Pet Pavilion Hatchery. David was really very pleased with the result, and it felt good to help out, so a win win situation. I didn't even look at the Pet I acquired. After 5 minutes I saw the little Pet indicator telling me my Pet was ready, and that it had some odd name - as always it seems! I just carried on doing what I was doing and didn't give it another thought.

(Item Card) Sharpened Blade.pngToday I logged on and I thought I would check out the Pet. I had loads of Mega Snacks thanks to Couch Potatoes and Evil Magma Peas, and loads of energy as I am only growing 12 EMPs at the moment. Anyway, the Pet was Enchanted Armament. I had no clue whether this was good, bad or otherwise! The stats were all above 240 and I knew that was a fair start. The Pet comes with a Sharpened Blade at baby, which I thought may be pretty useful. Everything falls into place sometimes I guess, and I thought I had might as well do a bit of Pet training - see what this random hatch has produced.

My game of choice is always the Dance Game. It is quick and fairy easy. The first Talent reveal after 3 Mega Snacks is "Incredibly Infallible". I knew this spell well from my storm Toaddle, so I was encouraged to continue to Adult to see what would happen. Next up was "Ace Avenger".... hmmm two Astral MC Spells - this was new.

At this point I've still got heaps of energy and heaps of Mega Snacks left, so I decided to carry on through to Ancient - chasing a MC healing spell which I like to have in the mix. Lucky the whole process doesn't take long when you are feeding Fancy Yoghurt for each game....

And now I'd like to introduce "Lady Cleo", my latest Ancient Pet - complete with 2 Sharpened Blades and three May Cast Talents!

A totally unexpected result - a pet I was going to ditch to be honest. I've never used the sharpened blades before, but an extra 10% sounds pretty handy. Being a Death wizard with our own style of healing, a MC Healing pet isn't really necessary - although sometimes they can be very useful. At least I can be of use to others with the MC Unicorn.

So I'll keep this pet for a while, try it out on a few quests and then have a think about what to do. If I keep then I will definitely rename, though what to name a floating sword and shield? I'll miss having Patch at my feet though.... really do not like flying/floating pets at all.

Until Next Time,
Tabitha

How To Choose Your 'Perfect Pet'

A 'perfect pet' is a pet that manifests all the talents that you want and that has good stats (usually I go for 240+ to make sure I get the highest possible percentage for the talent revealed).

To make your 'perfect pet', ask yourself 2 questions... What talents do I want and how can I get them? & How high do I want my stats to be?

Some talents that I would suggest trying to get would be:

Spell Proof & Spell Defying. These talents both give Universal resistance which is really useful for taking big hits. With a total of up to 15% Universal Resist together, it's a pretty good thing to have!
Fairy Friend/Unicorn/Spritely/EB. Fairy Friend is the obvious first choice out of these healing talents, as it provides you pet with a chance to cast Fairy. The others aren't as good but aren't far behind. I would get Unicorn if you're a team player but otherwise, EB (Energizing Battery) and Sprite are useful too. Energizing Battery (may cast Healing Current) is also useful for a 1000 health heal a third of the time so choose wisely.

The Dealers & Givers. The Dealers are school specific damage talents that solely boost one schools base attack damage by up to 9%. The tricky bit is getting the right talents but once you've got it, 9% extra damage is really helpful! The Givers are very similar but only give a maximum of 6% damage to specific schools, however! Pain Giver is just like a normal giver talent except instead of giving 6% damage to one school, it gives 6% to EVERY school.

That pretty much sums up the talents I would usually go for but there are others that some people may choose. For example. I might be working on a Death Damage pet (which I kind of am now), I want maximum damage from my pet. I would choose Death Dealer, Pain Giver, Death Giver and maybe something like Spell Proof or Fairy since there are only 3 damage talents.

Keep experimenting and researching and see what you find.

Thanks!
Blaze

Pet Training! (Good news for once!)

After many, many, many hatches and lots of hatch setting up on Wizard101Central I have managed to get very close to "one of" my  Perfect Pets.

This will be my PvP/hitting hard pet. For it, I want the 5 following abilities.

1. Fairy Friend, one of my 'must have' talents for most pets ('May Cast Fairy')
2. Death-Dealer, yes I am making a school specific pet for my Death (main) wizard (adds 9% Death Damage)
3. Spell-Proof, another must' have' talent for me (gives 10% Universal Resistance)
4. Pain-Giver, my first ever pet to have pain giver, a great talent for multi-school and specific schools (6% Universal Damage)
5. Spell-Defying, similar to Spell-Proof but a little less resist (5% Universal Resistance)

This is what I have so far...

Amazing! Right? 4 out of 5 of the talents I wanted. I'm not training to Mega yet (it has Pain in the pool), but instead hatching this pet with others.

I hope my luck stays with me as I train my other pets. Thanks goodness for Couch Potatoes and DHEs!

Also (something we haven't done before), if you would like to hatch with this pet, please post a time in the comments and the name of your wizard so that we can meet up. Make sure you have at least 50, 000 gold just in case before you come so that you afford the hatch. I will wait 15 mins after the time you posted and if you do not show up, I will move on. Feel free to repost.

Don't forget that I can only hatch once every 12 hours (so I can't hatch one after another (unless your willing to gift a potion)) and only have Menu Chat.

See you next time!

My first Mega Pet!

Hey everyone,

As you know I have been training a new pet called Patch. This one was another Morgrim hatch, but with a Penumbra Drake. I used my best Ianthine Hound, Winston for this hatch. Now the reason I chose a Penumbra Drake is that they are 'Ace Avengers' - otherwise known as 'May Cast Vengeance'. I decided to try for this talent, as my critical hit was still lacking a bit.

Training started and luckily I had around 48 mega snacks to use. The first talent revealed for Patch was Curse Giver. This is not really want I wanted, but I carried on regardless. The pedigree of the two pets was good.... so this pet must have picked up at least a couple of good stats, surely?

Each Talent reveal after Teen was good, and I continued to train. Today was the day that Patch got to Mega status. Actually this is the first time I have trained a pet to Mega - I was chasing Fairy Friend. My garden is non-existent because I have chosen to train and I need energy.
Anyway the results are in - Fairy Friend, so once again I am doing the Happy Dance!

So in Order the Talents revealed are:

  • Teen - Curse Giver
  • Adult - MC Vengeance
  • Ancient - MC Unicorn
  • Epic - MC Spritely
  • Mega - MC Fairy

Now curse giver is the only  talent that I don't want, and the stats for Patch aren't quite perfect either. As you can see Intellect and Will are not at maximum level. I am thinking that maybe I should try another hatch with Morgrim's Penumbra Drake, but for now I am out of Mega Snacks and it's back to gardening for a while.

You know I was after a healing pet with MC Vengeance... and that is exactly what I got. Time to think about what else would be useful..... a Red Ghost card would be pretty cool.... As always I'll let you know!

Until Next Time,
Tabitha

Cyrus Drake on Pets not CastingFairy

I know this is of concern to many Wizards out there, and if you are not on the forums you may not be aware that there has been a change to the MC Fairy talent, and that the change has caused issues.

This is the official word from Cyrus Drake......

Looks like we can expect it to fixed real quick....

Grub Guardian - A Beginner's Overview

One of the things that Blaze has often enjoyed was Grub Guardian.  He would constantly work on us to get over there and play it with him.  For me, this was always a challenge of benefit versus time spent.  Honestly, Wizard101 takes a lot of my free time, I just didn't know how much time I would have left to play this thing called Grub Guardian.

Well, now I am a convert, and I admit, I do play Grub Guardian on a semi-regular basis.  Why? What changed my mind?  Two things - First: free Energy Elixirs, Second: Unique housing items!

Some of these are very unique. I thought I had every rug in the game...boy was I wrong!  There are at least 7 unique rugs available.  Add to that packs, elixirs ... the list goes on.  This is a treasure trove of Wizard101 items.  For a reasonable list of what is available, click here to go to Wizard101 Central.  From experience I have found that it is not 100% accurate, but it is a great start.

So what is it really?  At its heart, Grub Guardian is a classic TDG - A Tower Defense Game.  This means, you have something you need to protect ("Grub for your Pet", or "10 items of Pet food") from the numerous waves of bad guys who want to eat your pet's grub all for themselves.  The way you protect them is with your Pet (yes, your actual pet from the Wizard101 game), and a series of Towers that each represent a different school.  Each Tower has its own unique ability that can be used to defend your bowl of Grub.

Normal Towers
These are the normal Towers in the game that everyone can use.  Not all Towers are available to be used in every Map.  On the map in this image, the Myth Tower cannot be used, much to many people's annoyance!

  • Myth - A cheap, fast, single shot at a time Tower.  Quite effective upgraded to Level 5 with a Life Tower boost.  A useful Tower in almost all occasions.
  • Fire - A burning flame to keep up the pain for the hoards over time.  Can attack multiple targets simultaneously, but takes time to deliver the full impact of the blow.
  • Ice - A freeze Tower specifically designed to slow the approaching hoards.
  • Storm - A lightening bolt designed to take out anything in its path.  Can be quite useful, but fire rate is a little slow.
  • Death - A very handy Tower that can instantly kill a bad guy.  Very useful in numbers!
  • Life - A boost Tower.  All Towers within range of the Life Tower will have increased fire rates.
  • Balance - A great multi-hit Tower that can also 'chain' the attack to all bad guys in the immediate vicinity, even if they are beyond the actual range of the Tower. Can be very helpful against large numbers of low level targets.
Crowns Towers
There are few Crowns Towers to choose from.  These include:
  • Star Guardian - If you want to spend Crowns on a Tower it is hard to go past this one!
  • Sun Guardian - Opens a crater that burns and slows the enemy when they pass through it.
  • Moon Guardian - Generates extra cash if bad guys are killed near it.
  • Avalon Guardian - A chain attack that uses lightening, fun and effective.

Each Tower can be upgraded during normal game play.  Just click on a Tower and the following will appear (unless it is full upgraded!)

From the image here, you can see that there is useful information about upgrades and what they will do for you.  To upgrade, simply click on the bar at the top (with the images in it).

There is one word of caution though.  If you have two Towers, one in the square directly below another, it is easy to accidentally sell the Tower at the top.  You think you are switching to the Tower at the bottom, when actually you click on the Sell coin!  Poof!  There goes your Tower!!

When selecting your pet, your choice will make a huge difference on your game!  Choosing your highest level Pet is a definite advantage as it adds to both its ability to help you, but also the Tower value, calculated at the end of the game and one of the factors in calculating your total Score.  I use a Mega Coldfire Dragon.  Miss Ellie can hit and burn bad guys from almost anywhere on the screen, making her a deadly weapon against the waves of lower level enemies that will try to distract your other Towers.

How to Play Grub Guardian in Simple Terms
When you first start playing Grub, it will ask you to sign into Wizard101.  This will allow the game to know who you are, what pets you have and how much Energy you have available.  You can now select your Pet, and then, once you are at the first map, decide whether you want to use your Energy to actually train your Pet (yep, you can train your Wizard101 pet in Grub) or whether you want to play for prizes.  For me, it is easy, prizes EVERY time!

To actually play Grub Guardian is pretty straightforward.  Milo will take you through the basics at the start.  Unicorn Way is a nice simple map to get you started.  You really only need one Tower to complete it, depending on the type of pet you have.  I'll overview that for now, and Blaze might post a few of the trickier maps in some later posts.

For Unicorn Way, place your Pet somewhere central, then place a Fire Tower as per the image below:

Before you click on GO, select your Fire Tower and upgrade it.  It will turn into a Spiral.  Now click on GO.

You can upgrade your Tower once more when you have the available funds.  That should be enough for you to survive Unicorn Way and come away with a Gold Medal!  If you do not, it will be your choice of Pet.  Upgrade your Tower again and you should cover it :)

Once you have collected a heap of prizes for the day, the game will tell you you have hit your limit.  Now it is time to enter the Wizard101 Spiral and claim your rewards!

One key point to note - you cannot be logged into Grub Guardian and Wizard101 at the same time.  You will be kicked out of one if you start playing the other.

I hope this has been helpful.  We'll start posting more blogs on Grub Guardian over time.  If there is any map in particular that you need help with, just leave us a comment.

See you 'round the Spiral!

Don't be Fooled

Hey everyone,

You know the first couple of times I hatched with Morgrim we hung around after for a chat, while waiting to view the stats on the pet. If you read Morgrim's earlier post of Pet Training when he notes you can quickly see what pet you got, prior to hatching (pet-training-simple-trick) I would already know what pet I got.

In fact in all cases of hatching with a few of Morgrim's pets, I got the same back - an Ianthine Hound.... and that was cool by me. As I have said before, I prefer a pet at my feet! When your pet has hatched the pet symbol will appear on the left of your screen. When you hover over that little pig, you will see the stats for your pet.
But - the story does not end there. The stats shown are the BASE stats for the pet you have.

The stats you actually get will depend on the parents and can only be viewed when you go into your backpack and view the Pet itself. I remember being really disheartened when I thought my stats had actually gone down, because I was looking at the base stats. So don't be fooled by that.

Another thing worth noting is the amount of items in your backpack. If you hatch when your backpack is full... your pet will go straight to your bank. So when you go to your backpack to find your latest pet - you simply will not be able to. It will be in your bank instead.

Last thing.... your pet name. Let's face it the random name generator used in Wizard101 can provide some pretty weird names! I tend to train a pet to Adult to see if the pet is worth keeping. Once I am happy to continue the training process, I need to rename to something, well, just a little more fitting. You won't always have to - the pet I am training at the moment is called Patch. That was his given name - and he is the first 'keeper' pet I have not renamed. If you don't know how to rename you pet, just go on over to the shopping district and look for the dye shop. This is where you can dye your gear, but also where you can rename your pet. It costs 100 gold to do this. I have created Murphy, Lexie and Winston here!

Until next time,
Tabitha

Alia's Sightseeing through the Spiral - H

H - is for Hatchery

Basics for Hatching -

The Hatchery is the only place you can go to hatch two adult pets together to get a new pet.  You can either hatch with another wizard or hatch using two of your own pets.

The Hatchery is located in the Pet Pavilion. This area is where you can buy and sell pets, and train your pet to get them to be an adult.

You begin by getting a pet (egg) from either a drop, a quest or buying one.  After this pet has hatched you will be able to start to train it.

You train your pet by playing games.  I have tried all of the games but have found my favourites are the maze game and the dance game.  The maze game is a bit like pac-man where you just eat the treats around a maze.  If you get more than 70 snacks then you score a perfect round.  You have 60 seconds but can add to this time by eating the clocks.  The ghosts will try to freeze you if you are just in front of them, although you can also get speed bonus and anther bonus where you can eat the ghosts for a limited time.

Scoring a perfect round gives you 4 points for the game.  Then you are able to feed your pet a snack.  This is where having mega snacks can be handy.  The snacks are worth 1 to 50 points so always try to feed your pet the biggest snack so you make your way to the next level quicker.

You need 125 points to advance your pet to teen, then a further 250 points to train your pet to adult.  Now that you have an adult pet you are able to hatch with other people.  You do this to either get a new type of pet, or to increase your stats and talents.

This is a picture from inside the hatchery. Once inside, you can hatch by selecting the wizard you wish to hatch with and selecting hatch from the menu or you can stand on the blue lit up area, with them next to you.  The orange lit up sigils are for standing on if you wish to hatch two of your own pets.

There are many different types of pets and talents available so have fun.  If there are no wizards you wish to hatch with, or the Hatchery you are in is a little quiet, just keep changing realms until you find the pet you wish to hatch with.

There are other posts on our blog about pets, training and talents when you have mastered the basics.

Enjoy :)
