7th Birthday for Wizard101 - and KI have officially gone nuts!

Happy 7th birthday Wizard101!  The birthday where Wizard101 gets older, and we all get the gifts :)

Wow.  This is quite a birthday surprise!

Blaze was very excited and told me I needed to get a post out because what KI have lined up is truly remarkable.

Let's see how/where to start...

Well, first there are the 7, (yes 7!) free gifts you get just by logging into the website and using the code:  happy7thbday

  • Origami Party Crane Pet
  • Birthday Hat
  • Confetti Canon
  • Major Fishing Elixir
  • Ultra Dandelion Seed
  • Birthday Cake Snack
  • Huge Ice Cream Snack

OK, so some of these are definitely better than others - but seriously - a free Pet?! And it really is a great looking pet too :)

Then of course there are the new Crown shop items:

  • Party Corgi Pet
  • Reg. Keeper Party Multi-Tank Aquarium
  • Birthday Party Cake Housing Item
  • Party Chair Housing Item
  • Party Buffet Table Housing Item

The 5 B.O.X.E.S. event and the Lost Pages events are BOTH back at the same time!

And then...if you are a member, well...

  • Double pet experience
  • Double gardening rewards
  • Free PVP tournaments
  • Free training point buy back
It is just MAD!  I was just thinking while planting out my EMPs the other day...I wonder when there'll be another double gardening reward?

...and that means those Mega-Snacks are worth 100 PET EXPERIENCE!!  Woohoo!!

And of course, (and Alia will be pleased to hear this!) there is the dun, dun , dahhh..."MYSTERY FISH"!

I wonder what he is...and I wonder where he'll be?

So, again, Happy Birthday Wizard101 and KI.  Congratulations and I might just go and collect my free stuff...

See you 'round the Spiral!

Oh yes, May Flower Sale...now that is worthwhile!

For any avid gardener, this is the sale for you!

Firstly, if you haven't tried them already, now is the time to invest in your EMPs. The Evil Magma Pea is easily the best choice of any seed.  See my free gardening book (link on the right) to see why!  Once you have one, keep your eye out for a 'Double Gardening Rewards' event to double your investment.

If you want to 'turbo level', grab a Key Limes.  You only need one or two to start as they multiply like crazy.  Great experience and fast growth cycles.

Then there is the solid Couch Potatoes.  My favourite when it comes to Mega Snacks and Treasure Cards, helping to level up your pet quickly and making you good money.  They are also great to watch, sitting there in front of the TV.

Even the Sword Fern can be fun, often dropping a Housing Item at Elder.

Remember, when you get into Gardening, don't forget to understand what things your plants Like and Dislike.  Grab a Tropical Garden Gnome for good measure.  Many plants like him and the more Likes you have, the faster your plants will grow.  Stay away from the Stinkweed.  If the name doesn't turn you off, the slow growth cycle of your plants should...

If you like stacking your garden to maximise your returns, it is hard to go past Moolinda's pack.  It just makes gardening so very easy.  Don't forget, you can also get this pack over at Grub Guardian if you are good enough!

Finally, if you plant for decorative effect, you can even pick up a planter in the current sale!

The Merle and the team have done another great job and selected an excellent range of specials.  Why not check them all out and see what is right for you?

Like I said - if you like Gardening, this is the perfect sale!

(BTW - If you are low on Crowns, one EMP and one Key Lime would be my suggestion)

See you 'round the Spiral!

Loving the Gardening Assistance

One of the things I like about playing Wizard101 is the little things.  The minor mods, the tweaks, that all make our life in the Spiral just that little bit easier or more fun.

The newest mod that has caught my eye enough to post about is the change to the Gardening 'button' when you are at your house.

The way gardening used to work is that you go to your house, click on the Gardening button and switched into gardening mode.  You would then service your plants and tend to their needs.

Eventually, they would turn Elder and you can reap the maximum rewards.

This was always good and the way it worked in the Spiral.

...and every now and then, you would find that lone plant or experimental garden that you had simply forgotten all about!

Not any more!

Now, when you go Home and look at your Gardening button, it actually tells you something about your plants and the state of their health.

This little one lets you know there is work to be done.  Somewhere there is a plant that has needs or pests to be attended to.

This is the typical icon that you will see when you come Home as, if you are tending your garden on a regular basis, they will let you know that it is time to provide assistance.  Don't forget, the more you visit your Home, the more frequently you will need to tend to your plants.

This one, however, tells you that there is a plant somewhere that you might have forgotten!  There is a plant out there in desperate need of assistance, and will die a horrible death if you cannot get there in time.

However, it is worth realising that this icon won't be shown once your plant has died.  once that has happened, the only thing left to do is to Revive it (if it is worth the effort) or simply dig it back into the ground.

Still, for me, this has already been very helpful.  I hadn't been to one of my gardens in a while and I thought I had handled all the current needs.  Then I had a plant that was wilting!  Aha, a quick circle of the garden made me realise it was my "Pixie Plant", the Fiery Boom Shroom I keep alive to ensure the garden is always well services for Pixie's.

A quick spell later and all was right again.

Great idea KI.  These are the things we appreciate!

See you 'round the Spiral.

Double Gardening Rewards?

When logging into the spiral today, I noticed something a bit different.

What?? I logged on immediately to check my garden!

Sadly, My DHE's (Deadly Helephant Ears) weren't ready for harvest.

But my Couch Potatoes were! :)

Interested in how this, Double Reward deal would work, I harvested...

It turns out that they actually were talking about DOUBLE rewards! As shown below, I got the reward I would normally receive (gold, tc and snack) but then I got it again!

The only thing I'm interested in knowing is.. What about at Elder? Things Like CP's DHE's and EMP's are good to farm, not only for their rewards, but also for the fact that they replenish themselves at elder.

Will 2 CP seeds drop at Elder? Will KingsIsle do more of these double rewards events?

I'm not sure, but you should definitely get gardening!!

Good Luck Gardening!

Been waiting 5 months for this Spell!!!

Hey Everyone,

The time has finally come for me to get my spell. I had to pop over to Halfang for a bit of farming to sell gear at the Bazaar to replenish my Gold, and then I was all set.
The is a little quest and will see you off collecting a couple of Shrubbery items (I can just hear the Monty Python crew saying "Shrubbery!")

The quest ends saying that Roger has been restored to his rightful place in the Shrubbery, I just didn't know where! Well... actually I did. Luckily for me, Morgrim had taken me through this part of Avalon a while back and I sort of remembered the spot he would appear in... so it actually didn't take long to find him :)

This moment had been a long time coming. Ever since I finished my Christmas in July garden I have been hanging out for this spell!

I don't know if you remember that particular post. It started a conversation about whether the Happy Holidaisy looks better at Elder or at not. I had decided that a field of them at Elder was hard on the eyes, and difficult to actually pick out the individual plants.

So I decided that I would buy the Second Spring spell as soon as I could and start changing them to Red and White and see what looked best. I'll do another little post on that soon.

As you can see - it has taken Aug-Dec to get this spell. I'm now officially Spiral broke, but I have the spell. I see quite a bit of Halfang time in my immediate future as I need gold for the Reagents for Deer Knight..... but I have the spell.

Time to go back to my Winter Castle and start waving my new spell at those Happy Holidaisy plants. I wonder how it will all look for Christmas?

Have fun, until next time,
Tabitha

Gift Card - Bundle Analysis - The Evergreen Bundle

I don't know about you, but it feels a little like we are living in a Bundle Bonanza in the Spiral just now.  Two new Bundles and the Atlantean Bundle now available online!  You know what that means?  I don't have to think about the topic for my next post (although I have quite a few waiting in the wings), I'll just do a quick run through of the Evergreen Bundle and see what is in store for the eager buyer.

Bundles are a little different to other Gift Cards as they are quite expensive (relatively speaking) and so you really do get what you pay for.  No lucky dips on this one.  This is to be expected as they are the most expensive 'things' you can buy for Wizard101.

So, is the Evergreen Bundle worth it?

For those of you who follow our blog, you'll know I am a keen gardener, so this Bundle is one I was very interested in exploring more.  If it is worth it, I'll gladly ask one of my US mates to buy one and send it over here to sunny Australia.

So, let's have a look at the standard items in a Bundle and what the Evergreen ones are like:

The Mount - Celestial Wolf:  The mount is always going to be a bit different when it comes to a Bundle.  They are typically well themed and the Evergreen ones is definitely different.  It is called the "Celestial Wolf Mount" and has a kind of magical look to it.  It is a standard 1-person mount, but I don't personally like it.  It always has a 'drawn' feel to it, like it is super-imposed onto the game, as opposed to actually being a part of the game.  It does look interesting, but not something Morgrim would regularly ride.

The Pet - Spirit of the Forest:  This pet looks great.  It is a little guy in a robe with a wand, and is a bit like what you would think a forest Druid would look like.  In my mind, it is an ideal looking pet for this kind of Bundle.

Now, this is one helluva pet if you are Balance.  From a basic stats perspective, it has all stats over 200 and 2 of them at 240.  Very nice.

Then we get to Talents - with double Balance damage, and double Balance accuracy as 1st generation talents, it even has a Piercing talent and mc Balance Spear!  Other than these, however, there are the usual pip and health boosts.

...until you come to a spell called "Gardening Pixie".  This is a very unique spell, and the first time for it in the Spiral.  It is actually a May Cast (mc) Summon Pixie.  For lower level Gardeners, or just those without much energy to spare, I can see this being a handy addition, although for me, this would be more fun than practical.

Lastly, this little guy comes up with two interesting cards at Baby - Supernova(!) and Growzone Layer.  Now this can be very handy depending on your seed selection, as it prevents the need for Magic for 48 hours!  Great card - Moolinda would be proud.

The Weapon - Thornblade:  This is a great looking weapon and can be considered as a handy addition to your arsenal if you don't have a good weapon already.  I say 'handy' as it has solid stats, but they probably aren't great.  Piercing cuts in at level 50 and level 60 sees the Myth blade replaced with Earthquake.  Quite a powerful addition to your deck...if you ever cast it.

The basic bonus theme with this weapon is standard pip allocation (1 baby pip for lower levels, and PP for higher levels), followed by some levels of Armour Piercing (up to 6%) and a bit of Critical thrown in.  There is then the Myth Blade / Earthquake card and the expected Balance jabs.

Some people will buy this Bundle for the way this weapon looks, as it does look great, but looks are always a personal thing.

The Gear - Evergreen:  Continuing their approach to having a visually themed Gear set, KI have done it again with this Gear if you like Gardening or if you are a die-hard Life Wizard.

The gear doesn't really favour any particular school, but, by being general in nature, it really doesn't push the boundaries on Gear stats.  The cards are kinda useful (Weakness, Spirit Trap and Elemental Trap) and the stats are kinda useful  You can get up to 30% damage (level 100) with this gear, so it is tidy, but not great.

There is a handy +6 Energy on each item, useful for people without Energy gear (and I'll have to update my Gardening book now) but again, the +18 Energy it is less than you can get on one single item in the Wyvern's Hoard pack.  The big difference here is that you are certain to get +18 Energy, while with the Wyvern's Hoard pack, like all Hoard packs, that gear is a random drop.

I guess the other thing I should mention at this time is that you can get the "Splendid" gear in the Crowns Shop for 9995 that comes with +45 Energy.  It doesn't look nearly as good however, and the Evergreen gear can be coloured.

The House - The Botanical Garden Estate:  This is the main thing I look at when I check these new Bundles.  I do like houses, I kind of collect them :)

Of course, there is the Extra Housing Elixir so you can use your house after you buy it...and once placed, you'll be able to take advantage of some of the new and amazing artwork that Wizard101 has been focusing on.  It is beautiful.

It is also very handy for fellow Gardeners, as Seeds "Like" this house, just like the Red Barn Farm.

There is just one small thing...it is HUGE!  If people buying this Bundle think they are getting another House, it is important to understand that this is more of a Greenhouse than a House.  In fact, I'll go further, this is a forest with a Greenhouse in it.  You can easily max out the total number of items in the (almost) one-room Greenhouse and it will still look empty.  For those garden stackers out there, you'll have a lot of empty room.

In keeping with a number of Bundle houses, there is also a daily gift giver, this time in the form of a MASSIVE plant.  It looks very cool and reminds me a lot of "Little Shop of Horrors" (as the words "Feed me Seymour" are going through my head!).

Outside, however, is what this Bundle is all about.  It is a magical forest, a lake, a PvP arena and lots of secret areas.  From the outside the Greenhouse just looks incredible, and again, KI are really showing off the next level of attention to artwork that we have been seeing in the more recent worlds.

I can just imagine what it would be like riding the Vine Mount through the forest :)

Morgrim's Verdict

If you love nature or gardening, this would be worth buying, but mostly for the House.  The Mount is something some people will like, and some will not.  For me, I don't like the superimposed nature of it.  The Gear isn't a real standout, but if you like the look, it is quite unique and, unlike a lot of Crowns items, it can be recoloured. The Pet is very cool, but like I always say, you can hatch your way to any pet you want, so that wouldn't be enough for me to pay $39.  Even the weapon - again, it is nice...but.

Remember, you do get either a month's membership or 5,000 Crowns. That is a minimum of $5 value (min) straight up...so the question is, would I be happy with $34 worth of value here.

For me, the answer is probably a "No", maybe, as the house is amazing! Hmm...actually, I might change that.  I think for me...the house does make it worthwhile after all.  So for me, it is a "Yes".

That said, for one of my good Life Wizard friends, the answer would absolutely be a "Yes" because of her love for the woods and all things "Lifey".

What do you think?  Does the house make it worthwhile?

See you 'round the Spiral (but don't be surprised if I have a Spirit of the Forest pet - they do look great!)

Lighting the Fifth Candle

Drum Roll!!! We are nearly there... the fifth candle has now been lit!!!

And the prize being revealed today is a Major Fishing Elixir. For a whole hour you get 50% more chance of getting those fish you are after! Which is a great gift as we all received an Aquarium as part of this give-away and, of course, there is that Birthday Fish waiting to be found if you haven't secured yours yet! Time is running out as the end of September is drawing close now!

The other Birthday news is that a new set of items in the Crown Shop are now half price:

  • Regular Keeper Aquariums Set
  • Evil Magma Peas
  • Mega Snack Pack
  • Gold-Wrought Eagle
  • Fennec Fox
  • Red Barn Farm

Now I know a few of you will rejoice because the Mega Snack Packs are half price, but I would say "Don't go rushing in to buy these packs!". The reason is one a few will probably know well if you keep up to date on our Blog.... the Evil Magma Pea. Now these great little plants are a steal when they are half price.

They reward you in different ways, but always with a Mega Snack Pack at elder. They are easy to look after and their life-cycle is pretty short if you have all their likes in place (one of which is the Red Farm Barn, which is also half price at the moment!). During that short life-cycle, you will get a host of Pet Snacks, Treasure Cards and Reagents. These are all good too - things like Aether and Sunstone.

For me the TCs are great because I get my supply of Feint and Poison cards. Although I have these in my deck too, the TCs are just a little better and you can never have too many Feint cards imo!

Then at Elder you get a Mega Pet Snack.

So you can buy 2 EMPs for the same price as the Mega Pet Snack is at the moment. That means that every few days you will get 2 Mega Snacks (in addition to some seriously good reagents!). And these are the gift that keeps giving. You get a seed back every harvest so you can continue to reap the rewards forever. If you want more information on gardening, see Morgrim's 1st Gardening Book which covers everything you need to start this worthwhile activity (top left on the blog).

Would love to hear what you decide to buy, and I hope the Gift today helps you to snare that Birthday Fish!

Have fun, until next time,
Tabitha.

And the Second Spring comes again...

As many of you would know, once I got past my 'block', I have always enjoyed gardening - so much so I wrote two books on it!! LOL! (shameless plug time - You can download them by clicking on the links on the right!)

When the spell "Second Spring" first came out, I was around there in a flash to learn it.  It is pretty expensive to buy (unless you know our mate Halfang), and it is pretty expensive in Energy to cast, but its affects last forever...

Have a look at my latest two masterpieces.  Only simple, but tasteful (I think).  It is the beautiful Moon Flower.  This is a classic application for Second Spring.  The plant looks great in it natural colour, but once it hits Elder, it just loses some of that beauty.

The same can be said for the Clockwork Flower.   They are kind of similar, but still very different.  Here is one I have had floating around for some time now.

As you can see, it really is 'floating' around.

I guess, for me, that is the real power of Second Spring.  When you find a plant that you do like the look of, you can build it into the design of your entire house.  Once it has reached Elder and no longer needs your help to stay alive, a little Energy and it is sealed, preserved forever in all of its glory - and your design stays consistent.

Here are a couple of my other plants, frozen in time forever, just adding their natural beauty to the house that they live in.  Yes, they are similar, but I just wanted some Boom Shrooms around the place to liven it up a bit!

BTW - Don't get me wrong, there are times when the Elder version of the plant is really the one to keep.  Look at these beautiful, but deadly, women, guarding the entrance to another house.

In fact, there is only one thing wrong with Second Spring.  Your plant is still 'officially' Elder.  This means, that one wrong click of a button can end your plant's life and you are forced to start again.

This little guy greets me (then turns his back) every time I go HOME.  The only trouble is, if I want to use the World Gate, I have to take a step backwards away from him, or when I hit 'X', instead of spinning me around and opening the door, instead, my rude (and slightly sickly-looking) plant gets snuffed out and he vanishes.

Then I have to start again to grow a new one... :(

So, Second Spring is a great spell, one of my favourites.  Just use with care and be careful once done...

See you 'round the Spiral!

Frozen in Time

Hey Everyone,

Just popped on quickly to show you the frozen version of my Yuletide garden:

It took longer to go to Elder than I anticipated, and it was very surprising the difference in the life-cycle stages of the plants. They were all planted within a 5 minute window, and were all looked after the same. Yet there were days between the first Elder, and the last.
So what do you think? Better a frozen yuletide paradise, or better red and white? I'll stick to my red and white, I think. After all, you can hardly make them out in this next one.

Oh and in case you are wondering. I have another 46 Happy Holidaisy seeds in my bank and backpack. Not bad for that 2 seed crown purchase eh?

Have fun, until next time!

Hooray for the Happy Holidaisy

Hey everyone,

Back in May, Wizard101 was celebrating the onset of Spring and seeds went on sale in the Crown Shop. One of those seeds was the Happy Holidaisy. At the time I mentioned that a small purchase back then would reap rewards in time for Christmas in July.

So skip forward a couple of months and that curious time of the year has arrived. Christmas in July - made for us over here in the depths of Winter (day temps still 20 degrees though!) when the evenings are cool and fires are burning. Perfect setting to celebrate a more traditional style of Christmas.

So I bought 2 seeds. And I have been tending to them, nurturing them and watching them grow in number bit by bit. I also planted a couple of Snow Apple Trees in pots, and started to create a more festive surrounding for my emerging field of Happy Holidasies.

Of course, Snow Globes have come out to play, and my Christmas Trees and other festive regalia have been relocated to this hidden patch in my Winter Castle.

Now the rewards for this particular plant are not great. A little gold, chance of another seed and some low level pet snacks. Every now and then though, you also get the added bonus of a pet at elder! Now I got 4 of these pets, they are all the same - the Christmas Elf. They all have a new home in my Christmas paradise :)

One of the other things I was wondering, is what state to have the plants in for the reveal on the big day. I wanted all the plants to be the same through their life-cycle, so I waited patiently for them all to go to elder. It was quickly apparent though, that this is not a good look for the Holidaisy. They need to be shown in red and white to look their best.

While I waited I continued to move things around to set the rest of the scene. I also planted a couple of these festive plants at the end the bridge you cross have to cross to reach my new garden. These have now gone to elder and they will stay that way. When separate they look pretty cool at elder, like they have been frozen in time. But when you have a field of them, it is such a bright white that it is almost blinding! So with everything at elder, it is time to harvest and re-plant.

The next trick will be to have the plants at the right stage by the 25th. I fear I have planted them too early, so I have removed the couple of likes I had in place; the medium fir tree, and the ever useful tropical garden gnome.

As you can see here, I have quite a number of Happy Holidaisy plants now. All these from those 2 little seeds I bought on sale. If you look closely you should see a couple of those cheeky Christmas Elves dancing around in the snow too :)

As with most challenges I set myself in the Spiral, it has taken a little dedication, and a lot of patience. As in the real world, good things often come to those that wait, so a few more days of looking after my garden will be worth it.

And again it is time to skip forward a few days.......

And time to say "Happy Christmas in July!"  The garden came together well, and I have another 8 Happy Holidaises in my backpack already.

A small purchase of 2 seeds that were on sale, has turned into this little festive paradise!

I'm curious. Did anyone else make a purchase? Do you have your own Christmas paradise to show? Would love to hear from you. As for this little garden. I think I will let it go to elder and then leave it as a frozen garden. What do you think?

Have fun, until next time,
Tabitha.

Why Wouldn't You?

Hey Everyone,

Popped onto the Spiral to do some gardening this morning, and noticed that it's "Mega Snack Monday". That got me to thinking about how much my Mega Snacks would be worth in crowns, and I just had to work it out!

Now all my Mega Snacks are a result of gardening Evil Magma Peas. We have lots of posts on the Keep about these wonderful plants, but they have resulted in 248 Mega Snacks in my backpack. So lets do the sums:

248 Mega Snacks - all rank 9. (I am not including any rank 8 snacks in my calculations)

At 7 snacks per pack, you would need to buy 36 packs. Remember this is rank 9, when you buy the packs you get rank 8 and 9!

They normally cost 2,500 Crowns, so that would cost you 90,000 crowns, but currently they are 40% off, so that reduces to a mere 54,000 crowns. Now the best deal on Crowns is the Crown Sale that gives you 50% extra, if you spend $80. So the best possible price for the Pet Snack sale is $80 hard cash, with some Crowns left over.

Morgrim LightstriderI was chatting to Morgrim about this, and he has 475 rank 9 snacks. Wow - that's a lot, and yes they are all from gardening. Let's do the sums again.

475 Mega Snacks - all rank 9, at 7 snacks per pack you would need 68 packs! At normal price this would set you back 170,000 crowns, and even while the sale is on this is still 102,000 crowns. As you can see, $80 cash will not be enough to buy this amount - and this is the sale price. Imagine how much it would be at full price!

So my question to you all is - If you are not gardening then why not?

Have fun, until next time,
Tabitha

Khrysalis 2 - Pets, Crafting, Housing, Tours & Gardening

Hey Everyone,

Time to let you know a bit more about some of those updates that came with the Khrysalis 2 release a few days ago......

Crafting Updates

One for all those higher level Wizards.... If you've completed your Crafting tasks for Oztomeca in Three Points in Azteca, and obtained the Crafting Title of Transcendent Crafter, then Oztomeca has a new task for you.

Visit him in Three Points in Azteca to obtain the quest "Way of the Crafter". That quest will send you to Stendill HammerTail in Silent Market, Khrysalis, to continue your training. The quest Stendill HammerTail will give you is (of course) "Stop! HammerTail".

Crown Shop Reagent Bundles

Not looking forward to collecting more Stone Blocks? Run out of Scrap Iron again? Where is a patch of Deep Mushrooms when you need them?
Never fear! Collecting certain reagents will never be the same again, if you have crowns to spare that is! New Reagent Bundles are available in the Crown Shop:

Gardening & Housing Updates
  • Moon Flowers, which are a Rank 1 plant, will no longer attract Rank 2 pests
  • Blue Huckleberries, which are a Rank 1 plant, will no longer attract Rank 2 pests
  • Honey Bee Plants, which are a Rank 1 plant, will no longer attract Rank 2 pests
  • Angel Oak must be planted in Enchanted Soil
  • Melting Cheese Trees have begun to attract pests
  • Unfortunately, we have been unable to address the issue of rank 5 gardening spells not stacking. We'll continue to work on this and it will hopefully be addressed in an upcoming content update.

Housing

  • When in Decorating Mode, items of the same type will now stack in the item placement window
  • When in Decorating Mode, the name of the selected item is now displayed when you are placing or adjusting an item
  • Avalon housing items are now available as rewards from duels
  • More House names & phrases have been added to the Customizable Housing Signs
  • Medal Display, Medal Display Case and Commemorative Statue can no longer be sold at the Bazaar
  • Curved Vase Case & Vase Case are now properly labeled as Furniture not Decoration
  • Items picked up in the world can now be sold in the Bazaar

Castle Tours

When Castle Tours first made an appearance there were some clear issues. Houses were appearing that had not been decorated at all, and that was clearly not the intent of that update. Good news is that this has been fixed and Houses must have at least 50 items inside and 50 items outside before they can be added to Castle Tours.
Additionally, players will be prompted to confirm that their house actually contains a maze when adding a Maze themed Castle

One of the things I always wondered when I had my MooShoo house in the Castle Tours, was how many Wizards had popped over, so it is great to see this update - Castle owners can now view the number of days left on the tour and the number of visitors to their home.
