Minigame Madness - Chapter 8

The eighth and final chapter of minigame madness has arrived!

"Dueling Diego" has fought his way into my adventure! This minigame is by far my favorite, it is difficult, fun and has a point to it!

This is the only minigame where you advance properly in the sense that you play as Diego the dueling master fighting against a horde of Gobbler pirates! You control Diego with the normal up, down, left and right keys and attack with the a (High attack), s (Mid attack) and d (Low attack) and the spacebar to jump.

The first round is below deck where you fight normal gobblers, blood bats and jump barrels. When you reach the end you must fight the captain who takes 5 hits to kill. The strategy to hit him is to go right up to him for a moment and attack when he attacks then jump back and do that again.

Don't worry all that much about the hearts as they will regenerate over time. Although as you get further into the game it takes longer to heal. I only managed to make it to the third area but it is refreshing to play a minigame where I feel that I am actually advancing. I will most definitely be coming back to this one and attempting to beat it or at least get as far as I can!

So all of those games for one little bottle of potion, but hey they were fun and I enjoyed all of them. At least I now know which games I like and which ones I will leave alone.

What is your favorite minigame and why? Or do you just buy the potions?

Can't wait to see you in game!

Minigame Madness - Chapter 7

The seventh chapter of the minigames, the end is closing in!

Conjuring up "Conjuration Concentration" to play next in my adventure. This  is basically a game of memory. You start with the images periodically revealed so you can see where each one is; you can watch this for as long as you need to memorize the cards.

When you are ready select one of the cards and the timer will start. You will gain more points through combos and having a perfect level (not getting a single match wrong). The game doesn't get difficult till about the 5th level, although then it becomes rather tricky to play. Even though you can see the cards, sometimes you may miss one in the match and then have to look for it. Once momentum is lost it is easy to forget all the cards you just tried to memorise against the ones you have already flipped.
The timer gets quicker and quicker as the levels increase, to further increase the difficulty!

But all in all the game was rather fun and definitely challenging around the 5th level. I may come back to this one to see if I can win some of the extra prizes as it was an enjoyable game.

Minigame Madness - Chapter 6

Chapter six unravels itself below!

"Potion Motion" was next in my adventure of minigames and I enjoyed this one thoroughly - it was a good mid- level of difficulty and it is played fast and quick.

The timer starts when the first move is made, regardless of whether it matches or not. The aim of the game is to match three or more of one type of potion to make them disappear and bring new potions in.

The game will not tell you when you change levels, but you will notice that new potions appear to make it that little bit harder. You just keep playing until you run out of time, but when a potion match is made the timer extends. The timer starts getting faster and faster each time you level up.

Morgrim told me about a trick that Edward Stormglade uses, and that is to just randomly throw the potions everywhere and apparently it works well for him, but when I tried it I didn't end up with as much luck. This game was fun and slightly challenging but still allowed me to get a decent reward, I will also be definitely be coming back to this one.

Minigame Madness Chapter.5

Chapter Five is here for your reading pleasure!

"Doodle Doug" has dug its way into my adventures! This game is both really enjoyable and mildly difficult as the whole time you are being chased by monsters who want to make Doug (what I am going to call the little wizard) lose.

This game kind of reminds me of Bomberman as you start with 6 bombs to blow up enemies if need be and you need to dig around for the gems to get points. If you have  bombs left over and time to spare then you will gain extra points at the end of the round. There are many buffs and debuffs that help and hinder Doug in his travels.

This game is amazing as when you are playing you want all the specials even though they could hinder you...... they could help you....... but you also don't want to die or blow yourself up. As you need the gems all in time, it is very much a survival gem hunting game.

The buffs are as follows:
  1. Monsters walk slower
  2. Gems worth more
  3. Doug walks faster
  4. Extra life
  5. Extra bombs
Some of the debuffs are as follows:
  1. Monsters quicker
  2. Digger walks slower
When I was playing I could feel myself getting drawn into the game and wanting Doug to live through and keep going. This game was challenging and thrilling at the same time, I will definitely be playing this one again when I come back.

Minigame Madness Chapter.4

Hello and welcome to chapter four of my marvelous adventure!

I returned to my journey with "Choo-Choo Zoo"! This game was interesting and difficult and sort of reminded me of the "Shock Locks" on the silver chests.

As the player you start on the mid left of the map and you need to make the little wizard take a path that will lead him to the creatures and then back to the center of the map. Although the concept seems like an easy one, it is really difficult to reach each creature and return to the middle.

When the creatures are on the edge of the screen, like in the image, they are harder to get to as they you cannot let the little wizard run off the map; otherwise you fail.

The only way to gain points in this game is to either get the gems or get a time bonus. Although in my trials it is almost impossible to get the time bonus (unless the creatures are in easy spots, which is very rare anyway) so going for the gems is the only real way to earn points.

There is no timer on the screen and therefore no way to measure whether you will gain the time bonus or not. This game seemed easy the first time I played it as all the creatures were lined up and easy to grab.... but when I lost I played a few more times and struggled to get to the third level with any points at all!

This is a game I will not be playing again as it nigh impossible to earn anything.

Minigame Madness - Chapter 3.5

Welcome to a special chapter of my adventure through the minigames!

"Sorcery Stones" was a game that was easy but time consuming, and I thought there was no point playing it again. But, as all things in Wizard101, these thoughts can change! I was able to gain a high score because it was so easy and when I saw the rewards I thought that I might have something worthwhile......

Look at the picture - I saw that I had earned a hat!! This was new! I was rather exited to see its stats or if it was worth much gold.....  but neither held much gain. The hat would have been okay for my level but not that good either - so I decided that I would sell it because it must be worth at least a hundred or so.

I arrived at the bazaar eager to see what rewards I would reap, but I was rather disappointed when the hat only sold for 6 gold! It was a free hat so I can't complain about it but as you can see, I earned more gold from playing the actual game than selling the hat. I am still unsure about that last circle, and if get a score large enough one day I will share with you what I get.  In the meantime, have any of you ever completed the circles? If you have have perhaps you could let me know how long it took and what was the reward?

Thanks for reading my special chapter!

Minigame Madness Chapter.3

Here comes the third chapter of minigame madness!

"Sorcery Stones" was up next and this game, I thought, was very easy. But there was one big issue for me, and that was time. The amount of time I spent playing the game was enormous and the reward I got was pitiful! I can understand why the reward wasn't very good but I still felt that I should have gotten something a little better for how long I played.....

At the beginning of the game you start with three rows of the blocks shown to the right and you need to 'swap' two blocks to make a three-of-a-kind minimum match. Meanwhile, a random assortment of blocks rise from the bottom. When a block reaches the top of the screen then you lose.

Hover over a block to select it and the one to the right to swap the two of them. When a match is made the game will stop for a second and give you a score based on how many blocks you matched.

Some of the blocks have afflictions on them when rise from the bottom, the types of special blocks are:
  1. Frozen blocks - These cannot be swapped and must be paired with from their set location
  2. Caged blocks - These blocks have to be matched twice to destroy them. However they can be moved so that makes it easier to match them.
  3. Bombs - These  are incredibly helpful as they will destroy everything in a 1 block radius! Note that  they are colour based so that they must be matched with the block of that colour to be activated.
  4. Wild blocks - These are helpful because they act as any type of block needed for the match.
This game was easy but I couldn't see myself coming back as it wasn't much fun and the rewards weren't satisfying at all!

Minigame Madness Chapter 2

Welcome to my second chapter working through the minigames of Wizard city!
This game is one of my favorite minigames as it isn't only fun but there is also an element of skill needed when playing.

When you start you are a little wizard on the bottom right of the screen and the aim of the game is to shoot your arrows at the creatures that come to fight you. The first enemy is a little skeleton that pops out of the ground to walk up and take a life from you. The skeleton is an easy enemy but unless you hit him on the head he will just pause for a moment.... if you are able to hit him on the head then he will just fall and you will gain points. The longer you remain and the more points you get... the more enemies that come out.

The next enemy is a fire elf that sits on the second top part of the castle and shoots arrows at you. To defeat him you must have enough "Bow Strength" and the right trajectory; also sometimes if you hit him he will drop a ruby -  shoot it before it disappears and you get an extra point!. If you are able to hold both of these enemies at bay then a third enemy will appear at the top of the castle, a skeleton mage that shoots fireballs at the player! The way to defeat this creature is the same as the fire elf. Sometimes when you defeat the mage he will drop a sapphire and it will react the same way as the ruby but is worth more points. The upside to the last two enemies is that their attacks can miss, and will sometimes not hit you for a decent amount of time - unlike the third and last enemy, Zeus!

He will appear in the sky above the play and rain down lightening bolts at you, and he never misses!! Also he moves back and forth between the castle top and the top right of the screen making him harder to hit with your arrows. Although these monsters may be hard to hit, they have one downside, you can shoot their projectiles to destroy them and stop them from hitting you. If you manage to hit Zeus sometimes he will drop a diamond, they are worth the most amount of points and are worth aiming for straight away!

This game was very enjoyable, and I will definitely come back if nothing else but for a bit of fun.

Minigame Madness - Chapter 1

Welcome to the first chapter of my adventure through the minigames!

I was fighting my way through Wizard City, but low on health and mana, so I thought I would just use my purple potion for a quick refill, and I continued questing. When it was time to turn in a quest to Merle Ambrose I thought that I should fill up my purple potion to make sure that if I wanted to continue another time I could. I always thought of the minigames as a bit of a chore and when I arrived at the list of games I just couldn't decide which one to try! So I decided to play them all just to see which one I could do easily to reap the best rewards... and give you my opinion on each of them.

The game was fun but proved to be very difficult. The  aim is to shoot the little skeletons out of the sky by shooting a fireball at them. Floating is very difficult, it jumps up quickly and floats a bit before it will go up again. With such a poor ability to maneuver the character it was hard to dodge the enemy who had no problem with "ganking" (attacking the player from different directions all at once to defeat them) my character.

When you manage to actually hit one of the flying skeleton riders their skull will pop off and fall. But if they fall onto a platform they come back as a green skeleton (slightly faster)....  unless you manage to eat the skull first (which will add to your points). If the skull comes off the skeleton and it does not fall onto one of the platforms then the skeleton will not return, but you also lose the points that it would grant you.

The strategy is to hit one and dodge the others to make them fall into a position that will benefit you. Another possible helpful mechanic of the game is to land on one of the floating platforms three times causing the platform to fall until the start of the next match. If you had a lot of practice at this game it could prove to be beneficial, but as it stands I don't think I will be returning to that game any time soon.
